For the first time ever since I used my first groupon, I have never truly witnessed the impact of group buying on businesses. But a recent redeemed deal at Andersen’s Ice cream (IMM outlet) made me experience the wrath of group buying impact on local businesses which are not used to a sudden surge in customers.

This deal was selling like hot cakes the moment it was out. Titled “$10 for $20 Worth of Ice Cream, Smoothies, Pastries and More at 3 Locations. $20 for $40 Option Available.” and coupled with a strong brand supporting the deal, I wasted not more than 3 minutes to buy a coupon for myself (Yes, Groupon mobile makes purchasing THAT easy).

With anticipation and glee, together with my friend, we thus set forth to redeem the deal at the IMM Outlet at about 2 weeks ago. However, this joyous mood was immediately destroyed when the middle age lady working in the store shouted out, in exact words, “Use Coupons also right? Take out, TAKE out the coupons”. After saying so, she threw another two menus on to the table after we are seated down and left to fiddle with other things in the store.

Making sure everyone uses a Groupon

The climax of that night came when she demanded coupons from another young couple family with their kid for their coupons. Though I did not witness what happened after the lady took out the coupons, I did witness the following screaming:

Customer: What the?! Who say I am going to use all the coupons? Why did you assume?!
Lady Waitress: Of course la! Everybody here also use coupon what!
Customer: What kind of attitude is this?
Lady Waitress: Don’t like don’t eat la!! Get out of here la? (In a defiant tone)
Customer: What kind of lousy service is this! I swear I won’t come back ever again!!

The young couple then packed up and left in a hurry with their kid. It was indeed not a good start before we even start ordering. Soon after the dispute, the lady waitress does seem to have a slight change in her attitude, a change for the better. But the first impression when we stepped into the store, made us regret immediately on purchasing this Groupon. It made us just want to get out of this place fast.

The desserts were soon served and was satisfactory (pictures below), with another bubbly waitress apologizing for her mistake in scooping the wrong ice cream, which was in stark contrast to the lady’s waitress defiant attitude. We soon paid up the remaining sum and left.

Andersen's Signature – Nicely Instagramed.

Hazelnut Cake – Thumbs up!

After the incident, I soon pondered, is Groupon helping or killing off local businesses? The poor lady waitress obviously had her fair share of entertaining a full day of streaming Groupon users that were out of her normal job scope capacity. However it is definitely no justification for her service standard that day.

From what we have observed, it also seemed that nobody is actually ordering more than what the coupons are worth. In fact, almost 90% (Including us) ordered to the exact denomination of the coupons. After this incident, I am pretty sure I will not step in Andersen again, or at least the outlet at IMM.

To be fair, I had used many Groupons in the past too, with varying levels of satisfaction. In fact, most of the merchants are pretty good quality, but this was just too much. And no doubt, Groupon had brought me to places which I would have never stepped into if not for the help of group buying. I would not have bought anything from Andersen if not for Groupon. However, to retain Groupon-ers or any group buying users as repeating customers, will definitely require a whole new study into this field of commerce. Nope, offering rebate or discount on return visits do not really work. You got to be offering your best in every aspect for every customer as though they are normal paying customer in order to have higher chance of seeing them patronizing your store again. That includes good service, quality of your food/service/product in order to have any marketing effect through this channel. Unless your business has really high profit margin to do regular business with group buying business models, you only get that 1 or 2 shots at your chance to impress these group buyers, and HOPEFULLY, they will return.

WHAT ADL SAYS:

Featuring a 8 course seafood set lunch, this deal is particularly interesting to us and after looking at its location and price level, we decided to recommend this deal for corporate lunches because it is really value for money!

First of all, every dish in this “8 COURSE” is a dish itself. We particularly hate deals that proclaim 4 or 5 course meal which include plain white rice or some normal drink inside. Below is the menu for the 8 course seafood lunch/dinner set:

Sichuan Ma la fragrance chicken

Lobster soup with Pumpkin and Sharks Fin

Salted egg prawn

Pan Fried Fish Fillet

Seasonal vegetables with Abalone sauce

Braised Ee Fu Noodle with Dry Scallop

Authentic Premium Birdnest with Almond Cream

Dessert – Handmade daily dessert

Lobster Soup with Shark's Fin in Pumpkin Broth

Pan fried fish fillet

Salted egg prawn

We believe the portion might be small however it is justified by the relatively more expensive ingredients that is included with this deal. We have checked with the restaurant itself and realized that this set lunch is only available at All Deals Asia for now (It has been published on Groupon earlier). The avg price per diner used to be S$55-65 and with this deal you can push it to much lower, enjoying a full course set meal with friends or business associate.

Best of all, it is valid on weekdays, weekends and public holidays. However, please do take note there will be an additional S$2.50 ++ for tea, wet towel and peanuts. The deal itself is inclusive of GST and service charges. And Deal is only redeemable from 21 June onwards.

And our ADL team here feels that, this deal is at its best when you complement this deal together with the S$14 nett beer top up option. Together with the unlimited beer top up option, you will bring your savings to S$51.62 ! Woohoo!

Seafood

This deal comes at quite an aptly moment, which is the reason why this deal review was being published. However, are there any other better deals out there for Marriott Cafe buffet? The other credit card promotions that are ongoing are detailed as below:

a. UOB Credit card: 4 person go, 1 Dine free! (works out to be S$57.38 per person)
b. MayBank Credit card: 15% discount
c. Citibank Credit card: 10% discount until 17 June 2012

Therefore, even comparing with all other existing promotions that are held concurrently, AllDealsAsia’s fantastic deal still work out to be the best. So, if you are looking for a place to bring that special someone for special occasions, look no further than this deal! It is because this deal has a longer validity period as well, all the way till 30th August 2012!

Do you know… The youngest person to sky dive was just four years old?! This shows that anyone can sky dive! One of the dare devils here in ADL has always been thinking of trying out sky diving. Sadly, due to the limited opportunities in Singapore, his dream of being able to sky dive was never fulfilled. At least not until iFly Singapore was set up in Singapore! Hence, upon seeing that GrouponBeeconomic had collaborated with iFly to offer a sky diving deal package, he clicked on the “buy” button without any hesitation. Check out his experience below!

>>> GrouponBeeconomic - $138 for Two Skydives Each for Two Persons + DVD + $20 Retail Voucher at iFly Singapore in Sentosa (Worth $233) <<<

Ever since iFly opened in Singapore, I’ve always been wanting to go there to try out “flying”. However, I just couldn’t bear the thought of spending close to $80 per person just to “fly”. As such, when I saw this deal by GrouponBeeconomic back in early February 2012, I know I must get it

After receiving my coupons, I proceeded to email iFly on 28th February 2012 to make reservations for 7th April 2012. 3 days later, on the morning of 2nd march 2012, I received an email from one of the staff at iFly, indicating that they are in the process of processing my reservation. However, as the date I chosen was a Saturday, I have to pay an additional fee of $20. I’ve no issue with that as the terms and conditions in the deals stated that a top up of $20 is required for weekend flights. I filled up a Credit Card authorization form (which is attached in the email) for the payment of $20, scanned the form, and emailed it back to iFly. By the late afternoon on the same day (2nd March 2012), I received a confirmation letter from iFly about my reservations. I must say that I am pretty impressed with the whole reservation process, as everything was very efficient and went on very smoothly.

iFly is located in Sentosa at the Siloso beach area. On the day of our reservation, me and my friend (girlfriend btw) took a train to Harbourfront MRT and then transfer onto the shuttle train to enter Sentosa. We alighted at the Siloso beach station, and iFly was just beside the station.

Our flight time was at 500pm, and we are required to arrive 1.5 hours earlier which is at 330pm. However, we were late, and arrived only at 345pm. We entered the iFly building in a rush and didn’t know where to go. Fortunately, we found the lobby and told one of the staff at the counter our predicament. He then told us to quickly self check in at one of the kiosk, and fill up two indemnity forms.

Me at the self check koisk

Following that, he led us to a room to view the safety video. Other fellow “sky divers” in the same flight as us were already inside the room when we entered. After the whole video is over, our instructor Joshua came in. He is a cool young dude who is full of energy and very friendly. He further emphasized on some of the safety procedures and also demonstrated to us the various flying positions. Each one of us were also required to practice the various flying positions on a flat bed.

After that we proceeded up to the second floor to get our flying gears. Here’s a tip for those who are intending to go iFly – all individuals who are “flying” are required to wear lace up shoes. If not, you will have to pay $8 to rent a pair of lace up shoes from iFly! Unfortunately for both of us, we were not wearing lace up shoes on that day. And hence, we had to spend a total of $16 to get two pair of lace up shoes. Socks are included too by the way. We also spend $2 to rent a locker to keep all our belongings.

We were each provided with a full body cover all suit, a helmet, two ear plugs, and a pair of goggles.

Us in our flying suits. Not wearing any helmets, goggles or ear plugs yet of course

After Joshua checked that all of us were fully properly geared, we were told to wait for a while as the previous flight were still in the process.

Previous flight in the wind tunnel

After about 5 to 10 minutes, its finally our turns! All the “sky divers” in our flight are going to be “sky diving” two times. Although its said to be “sky diving” or “flying”, there was absolutely no jumping involved! So those who are afraid of heights, fret not. Each sky dived will take about 2 to 3 minutes, and at any point of time if one feels uncomfortable, he or she can always signal to the instructor to get out of the tunnel. However, that will means that one of your “sky dive” will be gone.

Basically, during that 2 to 3 minutes, what we did was to “fly”! Of course, Joshua was there to adjust our body position and technique so that we can fully utilized the wind from the tunnel and “fly”. He also positioned our body so that we can face the camera and take a good photo shot. Just beside the wind tunnel, there will be a camera man giving Joshua the hand signs as to whether a good shot has been taken or not. Hence, the tip is really to keep avoiding the camera so that no good shot can be taken, and you will then get to stay inside the wind tunnel for a longer period of time!

After everyone “flew” for two rounds, Joshua asked if anyone of us wishes to go for an additional round at $30. The sum is to be paid at the merchandise counter after the whole flight is over. Some of the “sky divers” in our flight went for additional rounds, but not for two of us. Subsequently, after everyone is done, Joshua then performed some high difficulty tricks by himself, which was super cool!

Below are some of the footages obtained from the flight DVD that comes together with this deal. Be sure to check out the video!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MykAEye9PN4

At the end of our flight, Joshua debriefed us and presented each one of us with a certificate. We then proceeded to change out of our gears. Due to the strong wind in the wind tunnel, all of our hair were in a mess; especially those females with long hair. Hence, for those going to iFly, do remember to bring along a comb!

Our certificates!

Other than two “skydives” for each of us, this deal also entails us to a DVD footage of our whole flight, and a $20 retail voucher. Initially, we thought that the $20 retail voucher will allow us to purchase food and drinks at the cafe in the building. However, we were wrong. The $20 retail voucher can only be used at the merchandise stall. So in a way, we could have used the $20 retail voucher for our two pairs of shoes and socks which we paid $16 for initially -_-”

And so, since we still have $20 of retail voucher left, we decided to check out the photos that were taken of us and see if we could use our vouchers to purchase any of the photos. Some photos taken were really quite nice, and we were really thinking of purchasing them using our $20 retail vouchers. However, given that we would still need to top up additional sum to get the photos (and also we can always obtain images of our flight from the DVD), we gave up that thought.

This is the price list that we've noted down at the merchandise stall.

Instead, we used our retail voucher to purchase two iFly magnets as souvenirs. Each one of them costs $11. And so we still had to pay an additional $2.

The two iFly magnets we bought

Below is the total sum I paid for this whole iFly

Price of deal: $138
Weekend additional top up fee: $20
Renting of two pairs of lace up shoes and socks: $16
Renting of locker: $2
Top up for souvenirs: $2

Total: $178

All in all, I must say that we really enjoyed this deal. The staff and service level at iFly were really good and there was nothing to complain about. As for the whole experience, though its still a bit pricey in general, I feel that it is at least something different and unique (given that there is really not much exciting stuff in Singapore). Of course, given a choice, I would probably not return to iFly again as the cost is really a bit too high for me

Honestly, how many of you actually dined at the row of pricey restaurants along One Fullerton and Esplanade before? Not many probably. Indeed, one of us here at ADL (whose motto is “value for money” when it comes to dining) had never sat down and had a meal before at that area in his past xxxxxxx years! Fortunately, with group buying, he had the chance to do so with a “$80 value for only $40″ deal bought at GrouponBeeconomic. Check out his experience below!

>>> GrouponBeeconomic - $40 for $80 Worth of Japanese Cuisine at San-Sui Sumiyaki & Bar at One Fullerton <<<

This deal was first offered by GrouponBeeconomic in February 2012. After purchasing this deal, I went on to call up San-Sui to make a reservation for 24th Feb 2012. Unfortunately, they mentioned that reservations for coupons users are full. In fact, I was told that every single day (this deal is valid for all days), only a few seats are allocated for coupons users. And so, I switched my reservation to 7th April 2012.

ADL Tip: In some deals, under the terms and conditions, it may be stated that one can redeem it at any day. However, this may not be totally true, especially for F&B deals. More often than not, merchants will only allocate a few seats/slots for coupon users, and reserve the others for their other full sum paying customers. For some deal, this clause may be stated. But for some, it may not be. Thus, always be sure to make your reservations early to avoid disappointment.

On that day, before I visit San-Sui, I did up some research on what kind of food to order when I am there. As usual, I visited HungryGoWhere to see some reviews. To my surprise, I saw a long review by a fellow coupon user.

Click on the image to be directed to the full post

As I did not note down the name of the receptionist who took my reservation, I am really afraid that I may face the same predicament as the above coupon user. Which is why I was kind of mentally prepared.

ADL Tip: When making any reservations, be sure to note down the name of the person taking down your reservation. Do take note of the date and time that you called in as well. In this way, if there is any confusion, at least you can refer directly to the person who took down your reservation.

Luckily for me, when I reached the restaurant that day, everything went smoothly. The restaurant is easily accessible by train. My friend and I alighted at Esplanade station and took a 5 minute walk to One Fullerton area. The restaurant is just opposite Butter Factory.

Upon arriving, the staff there acknowledged my reservation and led us to our seats in the restaurant. As we wanted to be sat outdoors, we asked if we could have a change. The staff was nice and gave us a nice cozy seat at the outdoor area.

Nice views from our seats

Following that we proceeded to place our orders. As my coupon value is $80 (excluding GST and service charge), to maximise the coupon, we ordered accurately up to $80 (I know… call me cheapskate). Below are the items we called.

1 Maguro Spicy Garlic ($16.00)
1 Tori Soup No Newmen ($13.00)
1 Nasu ($4.00)
1 Eringi ($6.00)
1 Kurobuta Karubi ($6.00)
1 Gyutan Shio Negi Kus ($12.00)
1 Teppan Buta Kimchi ($14.00)
1 Oyako Don small ($9.00)
____________________________________________

Total: $80.00
10% Service Charge: $8
7% GST: $6.15
Total sum paid: $40 (deal price) + $8 + $6.15 = $54.15

Here are the pictures of the food and my comments

Maguro Spicy Garlic – One of the better dish. Its sort of like tuna sashimi but with the outer layer seared. The taste is especially good when eaten together with the spicy garlic sauce. Nonetheless, at $16 for like 5 pieces, I thought its really quite pricey.

Tori Soup No Newmen – Just plain Japanese noodles with mushroom. We ordered this because we wanted some soupy stuff. Sadly, the broth wasn't that fantastic. Just a very average dish.

Top: Nasu, Bottom: Eringi – Nasu is actually grilled eggplant. I've never eaten grilled eggplant before. So I thought the dish is quite refreshing. Eringi is just simply grilled mushrooms and it was nothing fanciful or special. We kind of regretted ordering that. Again, these two "sticks" costs $10. Expensive!

Right: Kurobuta Karubi, Left: Gyutan Shio Negi Kus – The Kurobuta Kraubi is actually grilled pork belly. I like this dish as the pork is not those super fatty kind and it is really tender. Similarly, for the Gyutan Shio Negi Kus which is grilled beef, the taste is pretty awesome too. Would definitely recommend this to beef lovers.

Teppan Buta Kimchi – Initially we thought that this fusion dish will turn out to be a great dish. Again, we were disappointed. The kim chi is a lot more than the chicken chunks, to the extent that we have difficulty finding the chicken

Oyako Don small – This dish was ordered in the very last minute as we are still below the $80 limit, and I am still feeling hungry (all the portions of the above dishes are real small). Basically, this dish is just a small rice bowl with egg on top and pieces of chicken. Surprisingly, it tastes a lot better than it looks.

Overall, I would say that the food at San Sui is not fantastic but is not lousy either. Just probably slightly above average. Service wise, I must say that I experienced a much much better service than the above user who had posted in HungryGoWhere. The staff were attentive to my needs and very friendly. Also, one thing to take note is that the restaurant does not serve ice water. It only serves distilled water and sparkling water which is chargeable, or tap water which is free of charge.

Finally, as to whether I will visit the restaurant again, my answer will be no. Given the overall price I paid, I believe I can have better Japanese food else where. In a way, the food there is just not value for money.

PS: if you are intending to visit the restaurant, do make your visit on a Saturday, and sit outdoors. At 8pm, there will be some laser shows from Marina Bay Sands which you will be able to enjoy while eating

First up, lets talk about the terms and conditions for both deal. If you are observant enough, you will notice that both deals are actually very similar. Except that, the first deal costs $10 and is valid for the afternoon singing session (any two hours from the outlet’s opening hours till 6pm), while the second deal costs $20 and is valid for the night singing session (any two hours from 6pm till the outlet’s closing time). Also, the outlets that are valid for each deal is slightly different. For the $10 deal, it is valid for redemption at 5 outlets. However, for the $20 deal, it is valid for redemption at 6 outlets (with an additional inclusion of Yishun Safra) .

Of worthy note here is that there will be a $5 compulsory first drink per pax. Therefore, other than the price of the deal which will be split among the number of persons redeeming the deal, one will have to pay an additional $5 more too.

Example: assuming 8 persons redeeming a $20 Party World KTV 2h night singing deal

Cost per pax: ($20/8) + $5 = $7.5

As for whether there are any other better promotions out there, we look up Party World KTV, and found out that there are a number of promotions currently. All promotions have their pros and cons. However, if we are talking about prices, the prices of these two deals are definitely among the most competitive.

Click HERE to check out Party World KTV’s ongoing promotion.

WHAT ADL SAYS:

There are a few things we really like about this deal. Firstly, the price is straight forward. A nett price ($20 or $10) for 2 hours of singing (either in the afternoon or at night). Not to mention, the prices are really competitive and there is a free $10 discount voucher for next visit. Secondly, both deals allow up to 8 persons for. This is unlike most of the other promotions we’ve personally seen whereby validity is mostly for up to less than 8 persons. Thirdly, this deal is valid at a variety of outlets. Lastly, we like the option that this deal allows multiple vouchers buys to extend hours at one go or for multiple visits. That means to say, if 2 hour of singing is not enough for you, you can always buy another voucher and sing for another 2 hours. Four hours in total!

Other than the “goods” about this deal, there are some “bads” that we can identify with as well. Firstly, the redemption period for both deals are only about 2 months which is a little short (from 17 May 2012 to 15 July 2012). Nonetheless, this period of time fall nicely in the summer holidays, and thus should not pose much of a problem. Secondly, both deals are not valid on Friday, Saturday, eve of PH & PH. This will means that, working adults will probably have to give the $10 afternoon session deal a miss. Of course, the $20 night session deal is still appropriate for them. Lastly, we will like to bring you attention to the clause “Rooms subjected to availability depending on number of pax per visit per location”. Given that the deal is already so cheap, our guess is that Party World KTV will not be really earning much from organizing these two deals with AllDealsAsia. This perhaps explained why they implemented the $5 compulsory first drink per pax clause into the terms and conditions (which is payable directly to Party World KTV). Thus, we do believe that in times whereby there are lots of people making reservation using the coupons from these two deals, if your reservation has less number of people compared to others, you might be placed at lesser priority and your reservation for that particularly day might be rejected. Intuitively, we know that this will highly be the case as Party World KTV will most probably want to maximize its earnings from the $5 compulsory first drink per pax clause. Of course, the above are merely our opinions based on our experiences with group buying. Nonetheless, readers, do take note.

All in all, we still find both of these two deals pretty attractive. Which is why, we are giving a 4.5 stars ADL’s Rating! In fact, we believe that these two deals are most ideal for teenagers or students having their summer holidays now. Given that the price is affordable and one can go singing in groups of 8, if you are thinking of organizing a gathering or outing, this deal is definitely something worth your consideration

If god can only grant us one wish, a majority group of us will probably wish for a hot, well toned body. Perhaps that of Ryan Gosling or Megan Fox? One of us here at ADL was so desperate to achieve a hot and sexy body (he’s a guy btw) that he’ve been humming LMFAO’s “I’m sexy and I know it” song everyday! As the saying goes, actions speaks louder than words. Even though he is sexy (something that only he knows and no one else can attest to) he still decide to purchase a GrouponBeeconomic deal to enhance his “sexiness”. Check out his experience below!

>>> GrouponBeeconomic - $28 for 8 Gym Passes + Four 30 min Personal Fitness Sessions + One Health Assessment at Physical ABuse in Clarke Quay (Worth $540). Option of 12 Gym Passes and 60 min Fitness Sessions Available. <<<

I’m sexy and I know it… OK. I got it. I shall not hum the song any further. But I must that I really got sexier after redeeming this deal! This deal was first published in early February 2012. I bought this deal on 19th February 2012. Subsequently, I called Physical ABuse to make an appointment for my fitness sessions and health assessment. I was told to leave down my contact number so that an instructor can contact me. True enough, within 3 working days, an instructor called me. We discussed over the phone, selected a date for my first session with him. As I’ve bought this deal with a friend of mine, both of us actually wanted to have our fitness sessions together. However, according to staff at Physical ABuse, all the fitness sessions are supposed to be one on one so that the instructor can focus and develop the best training regime suited for that particular indivdual. As such, my friend had to made her own appointments with another instructor.

As I’ve never been to Physical ABuse before, I went about googling how to get there. Thank god for gothere.sg, I found out that Physical ABuse is located near Clarke Quay area. I took a train to Clarke Quay MRT, exited Exit B, cross a bridge, and reached my destination.

The first session began with the health asessment, which probably lasted about 20min to 30min. I was told to stand on a super cool machine whereby my weight, height, BMI, fats percentage etc will be calculated automatically. Following that, my instructor explained to me what is my current body condition like. He also questioned about my fitness goals, what kind of sports I usually do etc. All these were asked so that he can develop a customized exercise regime for me. After some explanation, he also went on to clarify that fitness and health is something that cannot be achieved in the short term, or in four fitness session for that matter. As such, it will be best for me to sign on some package with him after the four fitness session. He explained to me the kind of fitness programs he provides, and also the respective cost. I must say that the cost is really not cheap. As much as I wish to workout regularly and be “sexy”, the price is really beyond my budget I explained that to my instructor, and he told me nicely to take my time to think and consider before giving him an answer at the last fitness session with him. He did not try to “hard sell” me, and I thought that was really professional of him. Following that, we went on to have my first fitness session.

Initially, I thought that I will be able to choose the fitness program I want, as the deal stated that one can choose between 6 fitness program option (kicking boxing, TRX suspension training, vibration training, weights training, functional training, pre and post natal training). However, I wasn’t really given a choice at all. My fitness regime was actually decided by my instructor. I did not have much issue with this arrangement as I believe that after the health assessment, the instructor will know which kind of fitness program most suits me.

Overall, one word can be used to describe the four fitness sessions that I had with my instructor – “SHAG!”. To be honest, I’ve really never felt so exhausted before! Each fitness session will first begin with a 10min slow jog on the treadmill. After that there will be a 2 to 3 cycles which will consist of different combinations weights exercise, TRX exercises, and short sprints on the treadmill. There are no rest in between, and it is really just 30min of hardcore exercising. It was SUPER INTENSE. Sometimes, I got so tired that I cannot think straight, and can’t recall which exercise to do next even though I’ve completed the cycle before! A apt saying in this context here will definitely be the army saying “Shag cannot think”.

Instructor: "12 reps of bicep curls lets go!"

Me doing pull ups

Normally, after each fitness session, my instructor will arrange the time and date for the next session with me. I must say most of the time he is not really that flexible in a sense that he will place other client’s interest as priority first before me. As the other clients have paid lots of money for training with him, whereas I’ve only paid $28, I am not complaining much here.

On top of the fitness sessions and health assessment, this deal also entails me to 8 gym passes. Meaning to say, I am able to access Physical ABuse and use its facilities 8 times for free! I was issued a temporary pass in which the staff there will record down the date of my gym session after each gym session.

The facilities of the gym is really good. I was given towels, both big and small upon passing my temporary pass to the counter. A key to a locker will also be given. The lockers are all located in the toilet which is really clean with proper bathing facilities. Soap and shampoo are also provided too.

Clean toilet with lockers!

The facilities of the gym is also very good with a wide range of equipments. I shall let the pictures do the talking here

Overall, I must say that I am very satisfied with this deal. Even though there was a tiny bit of hard selling involved to sign on additional packages, I was never heavily pressurized or treated badly. In fact, even after explaining that I will most probably not take on additional packages, my instructor still put in his utmost effort to train me. Sometimes, he even exceed the stipulated time of 30min. Very professional indeed.

Even though I was literally “physically abused” after the fitness sessions with all the aching and pains, I must say that I still find the fitness sessions very fulfilling and rewarding. Other than learning the correct proper body posture and technique involved in doing each exercise, I also learn from my instructor new exercises to workout different kinds of muscle groups. All these knowledge will definitely be of use to me when I visit the gym in the future.

Furthermore, as shown from the pictures above, the gym is really good with clean facilities and a wide range of equipments. Of course, it is not as big as those mega gyms such as California Fitness or True Fitness. However, it is really cozy. An ideal place to workout, and unwind in my opinion. Not to mention, the place is easily accessible too. If there is a similar deal by Physical ABuse in the future, I will definitely recommend it to my friends

Do you know, in the month of April 2012, ADL tracked and recorded a total of 473 beauty deals from 30 major deal sites in Singapore?! Among these 474 beauty deals, 90 of them are deals relating to hair services. Of course as always, everyone wants to look good, and some of us don’t really dare to try such deals for the fear that one’s hair will turn out to be not the way one wanted it to be. One of us here at ADL felt exactly this way when a deal by GrouponBeeconomic caught her eyes. However, given the cheap price, she still decided to take a risk and give that deal a try. Check out her experience below!

>>> GrouponBeeconomic - $28 for 90 min Hair Colour + 20 min Treatment + Wash + Blow OR $32 with Hair Cut at J Kelly near Holland Village (Worth $118) <<<

After purchasing this deal, I called up J Kelly to make an appointment. Unfortunately, some commitments suddenly cropped up, and I needed to change my appointment date. And so, I called up J Kelly again to arrange for another appointment date. The lady over the phone was very helpful and allowed me to change my appointment date

On the day of my appointment, I travelled down to J Kelly, which is located just a 5 minutes walk away from Buona Vista MRT. At the MRT station, I exited Exit B, got down the flight of stairs, turned around and cross over to the other side of the road to search for Blk 42 where J Kelly is located. It took me quite a while to find Blk 42 as it is not prominent and currently there are renovations going on that area. Thanks to the invention of smart phone, I managed to find the shop in the end and was greeted by the staff at the door.

Blk 42 is boxed in red above

I was the only customer in the shop at that time and the staff guided me to my seat. Shortly after, another staff came and served me a cup of warm green tea. After about 5 minutes, I was given three different colour chart for the choice of my hair colour. As I was unsure of which colour to go for, I decided to seek the staff for advice. The answer she gave was pretty vague as most of the time she would link the question back to me, and ask which colour I actually prefer more In the end I decided to go for something brighter which is the golden brown colour. The product that they use is “Medavita”. I didn’t heard of this brand before and was a little worried about its quality and integrity. But then again, since I’m already there, there is nothing much I could do.

Before she began, the lady asked if I would like to apply some solution to protect my scalp to avoid any irritation during the process. It cost an additional 15 bucks. As I have sensitive scalp, I thought that it might be safer and better for me to apply the solution. Thus, I went ahead with it.

ADL tip: For quite a number of deals, as the price is already very cheap, the merchant’s profit margin for publishing such deals is actually very low. As such, what merchants does is to have some add ons that they will sell to the coupon buyers during redemption. These add ons might in all cases be very irrelevant. However, the merchant will try their best in various ways to sell these adds ons to earn extra money. As people are always risk adverse and loves bargain/discount, one will have a high chance ending up paying for such add ons. Do take note of this and only purchase the add ons ONLY if you deemed it to be absolutely necessary. Always do a CBA (cost benefit analysis)!

True enough, during the process I didn’t experience any irritation on my scalp as compared to other salons which I went before for my hair colouring. To my surprise, there is no strong ammonia smell as well. The process was a little short though, unlike what was being stated in the voucher – 90 minutes for the hair coloring. I guess it all depends on how fast one’s hair is able to absorb the color. For me, it took only about 1 hour. Following, I was then brought to another room for the “wash” and “treatment”. My hair was washed first, before I was told to lie down for the treatment process. Again a 20 minutes treatment turned out to be only about 15 minutes.

After washing off the treatment, I decided to give my hair a trim. Of course, this is not included in the deal. Upon noticing that my hair’s texture is rather dry, the stylist started introducing me to their products as she cut my hair. One particular product she introduced to me was from Japan, and they are currently having a promotion at 2 for $45 (with the usual price at $35 for one bottle if I didn’t remember wrongly). Fortunately, she did not push me into buying the product.

2 bottles for $45

When it was time to blow my hair, I was attended by two of the staff at the salon instead of one. This was probably because the salon wasn’t crowded at that time . Nonetheless, I was still quite impressed by their level of service.

After everything, I was told to fill up a card with my particulars for the purpose of recording down my choice of hair colour during this visit. When I was about to make payment, the staff at the counter enquired again if I would like to purchase the product that they had introduced to me earlier. Another staff that was standing beside her further added on that that product is really popular among their customers. After hesitating and contemplating for a while, I decided to give the product a try, and purchase two bottles at $45. One of the staff then explained to me how to use the product. At the end, she passed me her name card and said that I can give her a call should I have any question.

All in all, I paid an additional of $76 on top of what this deal is offering. $45 for the conditioner, $15 for the before colouring protection, and $16 for hair cut. On top of that, I was given a $10 off service voucher for my next visit which is valid for a month.

Overall, I feel that the staff at J Kelly are friendly and professional in their service. As for the quality of this deal, I must admit that my hair colour isn’t that obvious on the first day. But, this is how it looks like after the third day!

I must say that I am pretty satisfied with what I’ve got given the price that I had paid for. Thus, I will definitely consider returning to J Kelly for my next hair appointment
