What better way than to get the family together for a steamboat session at only $15/pax! Furthermore, it’s located in VivoCity, which is pretty central! However, is this deal worth it or is having a steamboat at the comfort of your home still more worthwhile? Let’s find out!
To begin, let’s take a look at the terms and conditions. It is stated here that the voucher is valid from 1st February 2012 to 1st May 2012. This gives you 3 months to use it and therefore, it shouldn’t be much of a problem as VivoCity is located at quite a convenient location. Secondly, like many other food vouchers, $15 is for one pax per visit. Thirdly, please do note that the redemption is daily, but only between 11am to 4pm and reservation is required. However, you would not be allowed to use this on the eve of Public Holidays and on Public Holidays itself. In other words, it is more suitable for lunch or high tea. Fourthly, the price for children is different, so you won’t have to purchase this voucher. Lastly, ala carte items will not be included in the buffet. The only thing that we are skeptical about is that they didn’t indicate if $15 is the nett price or exclusive of service charge and GST. Hence, we will just take it that it is not inclusive of service charge and GST.
The terms and conditions seem pretty straightforward. What about the price then? Taking that $15 excludes service charge and GST, it will cost each person approximately, $15 * 1.10% = $16.50 * 1.07% = $17.70. Please keep in mind that this voucher is only valid from 11am to 4pm. How about the normal price then? This is the price list given in Bei Shan Chuan’s website.
Firstly, the price list didn’t indicate if the prices are for lunch or dinner. Hence, we shall just assume them to be of a flat rate. Also the words at the bottom state, “Please be informed that the Steamboat Buffet is limited to 2 hours. Exceeding which a surchage of $10.00 per hour or part thereof will be charged. No outside drinks allowed. All our Buffet items are available while stocks last. We apologise if your favourite items are not available. Food waste for Raw & Cooked Foods will be charged at $10.00 per 100 grams accordingly. The management deserves the right to amend the terms & conditions without prior notice. We hope that you will have an enjoyable meal with us.” Although the deal didn’t state these terms, it is better to take note of it just in case.
Secondly, let us do a price comparison inclusive of service charge (10%) and GST (7&):
Well, whichever way you see it, this deal still allows you to save some money if you intend to head over between 11am to 4pm. However, we found out from their website that there is a promotion for OCBC card members, which allows them to get a 20% off for weekday lunch buffet every Mondays to Friday from 11am to 4pm.
In other words, OCBC card members will only have to pay $16.90 from Mondays to Thursdays and $19.70 for Fridays. These prices are inclusive of service charge and GST. This means that it will be cheaper for OCBC card members from Mondays to Thursday and not worth to purchase this deal. However, it would still be cheaper to purchase this deal if anyone intends to head over on a Friday.
So what are your thoughts on this deal? Have you been to the restaurant before? Do you think that the price is worthwhile? Or is it still better to have a family steamboat at home? Be sure to let us know in the comment section below!
